Merry Christmas

October 4, 2006

Sorry that I can’t update this website more often. I would like to post a new text every day, but it’s not possible. But I’ll do my best to make more regular posts about Australia, the country I love.

Exile’s Lament

August 18, 2006

The title of this blog is weird. Everybody knows a cockatoo, one of those many strange animals in Australia. Cockatoos are a kind of parrots. They reside naturally only in Australia and nearby isles. All (21) the species belonging to the family are protected by international agreement. Some are even endangered: Goffin’s cockatoo, Red-vented Cockatoo, Moluccan Cockatoo, Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and the Palm Cockatoo.

More information about Cockatoos can be found in the on line encyclopedia Wikipedia.

The phrase ‘the notes of the tame cockatoo’ is mentioned in the song Exile’s Lament. The lyrics were published in the Sydney Gazette on 26 May 1829. The song is attributed tot M. of Anambaba. The author is an Irish convict.

A blog about Australia

August 18, 2006

G’day all! This is my first post on ‘The notes of the tame cockatoo’. A special moment, indeed.

What is the object of this weblog? Australia is very dear to me, although I don’t live there and I don’t spend too much time Down Under. But I try to know what is going on over there. With this blog I force myself to keep track on what is happening in Australia. This is also a good exercise to practice my English writing skills.

I don’t know what I will writing about. That will differ day to day. Ultimately, the blog will grow and shape itself.

Enjoy reading and tell me what you think about this. Any comments are welcome! By e-mail as well.
