Unknown internet users

An Australian professor from Queensland says that the government and companies don’t know how Aussies are using the internet. There is a lack of research, says Amanda Spink of the Queensland University of Technology in Sydney Morning Herald. “In this country we are focused on developing systems without understanding how they are changing Australian society”, knows Spink.

Spink is doing research on religious searches. She uses American data to determine how internet users are looking for spiritual guidance on the net.

The professor gives in the article an example of a good data collector: the privately funded Pew Internet & American Life Project.
